National 2 English and Communication
The National 2 English and Communication Course enables learners to understand and respond to simple word-based texts, and to create simple word-based texts to communicate ideas, opinions or information. Learners listen and respond to simple spoken ideas, opinions or information, and communicate simple ideas, opinions or information.
National 3 English
The course at National 3 is challenging and affords learners the opportunity to take more responsibility for their learning. The National 3 English Course enables learners to develop their literacy skills and to understand, analyse and evaluate texts in the contexts of literature, language and media. The Course also provides opportunities for learners to create and produce texts.
National 4 English
The National 4 course prepares learners for the rigours of National 5.
The assessment criteria for N4 is such that there is more of a focus on independent analysis of texts and communicating understanding at first reading/listening. The National 4 English Course enables learners to develop their literacy skills and to understand, analyse and evaluate texts in the contexts of literature, language and media. The Course also enables learners to create and produce texts, and provides opportunities to develop planning and research skills, applying language skills as appropriate.
